What Kind of Denture Will You Need?

May 5, 2021

When you suffer from severe tooth loss, then you may have trouble eating and speaking properly. You may need more than a bridge or an individual dental implant. Fortunately, your Kansas City, MO, dentist can help restore smiles with a complete set of custom dentures, full and partial.

Partial Dentures

When you have multiple gaps in your smile, spread out across your arch, this could be too much for a bridge to take on. However, you could also still have enough natural teeth that a fill denture isn’t necessary. In these situations, we craft a partial denture. The prosthetic contains new teeth set in a base that mimics the appearance of gum tissues. Metal clasps, invisible when worn, will attach to natural teeth to secure it. We craft them based on detailed digital images and measurements we take of your smile, ensuring a proper fit and an attractive appearance. The removable prosthetic will last about 5 to 10 years on average, requiring replacement as the jaw ridge changes shape.

Full Prosthetics

What if you’ve lost most of your natural teeth? We will then extract the remaining few and take detailed images and impressions of your smile with digital intraoral cameras. The images enable us to design a prosthetic in a lab setting. The full contains a full row of teeth crafted from strong materials and shaded to look natural. We place them in an acrylic base that mimics the appearance of gum tissue. Suction keeps the lower arch one in place, and a special adhesive could be necessary for the upper arch. Like partials, these last about 5 to 20 years on average.

Implant Dentures

We could provide fixed prosthetics, which don’t need to be removed for cleaning or soaking like removable ones, and never slip when you eat or speak. We insert multiple dental implants into the jawbone, where they act as roots since we craft them biocompatible titanium. As they bond with the bone tissue, this stimulates the growth of bone tissue, securing your implants for decades to come, possibly a lifetime. We then attach abutments to secure the full or partial to these posts. You have a new smile that looks and functions like a natural one.
