Sharks, Butterflies, Fun in Kansas City
Kansas City, Missouri is home to wonderful, creative, diverse people and the activities and events are set to match that. This week and weekend have so many fun, eclectic events for you and your family to enjoy. While the summer is still going strong, it can be a great time to get in for a dental exam and cleaning before the hectic schedules of fall swing back in.
Things This Week
- On July 28th starting at 9:00 a.m., the nearby town of Gladstone is hosting Fun in the Sun Kids Fest. Downtown Gladstone will transform into an event with entertainment, live music, food, and of course, fun. The Gladstone Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department will provide an inflatable water slide, lots of games, face painting, arts & crafts, and other enjoyable activities.
- Powell Gardens in Kingsville, MO is hosting a Festival of Butterflies that starts this weekend and runs through part of August. The annual festival is dedicated to education about butterflies. The locally raised, native butterflies will fill a flower-filled “Butterfly Breezeway.” There is also a lush Conservatory where more exotic butterflies like a Blue Morpho, Golden Birdwing, or Emerald Swallowtail can be seen. There will be fun events during the Festival of Butterflies like the Parade of Pollinators.
- Sea Life Kansas City Aquarium is hosting Shark Week this week! The aquarium is home to four distinct species of shark (the black tip reef shark, bamboo shark, zebra shark, and nurse shark). The Sea Life educational team will help to answer questions and dispel myths about sharks. Sharky, the mascot, will be around all week for photos. On Thursday, July 26, The American Red Cross will be onsite at the aquarium from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you donate blood, you will receive a free admission ticket to Sea Life.
