Lifelike Tooth Replacement With Custom Prosthetics

February 26, 2020

When you lose a tooth, or if you find yourself with multiple missing teeth, then your overall oral health could suffer. To replace your missing teeth and help you enjoy a healthier smile, your Kansas City, MO, dentist can provide dental prosthetics that could replace these teeth and look completely natural.

Bridges

Losing between one and three teeth in a row leaves a noticeable gap in your smile and has a negative impact on overall esthetics. Of course, losing your teeth also impacts your ability to eat, how you speak, and could increase the risk of complications ranging from misalignment to bite imbalance. To address these gaps, we may create a custom-made dental bridge. A bridge contains your pontics, the term for replacement teeth, and crowns attached to each end. The crowns will be placed on the abutment teeth, or the natural teeth sitting on either side of the gap. This anchors them in place and on average, they provide between 10 and 15 years of quality tooth replacement! We also create them with lifelike materials, ensuring they blend with the rest of your smile.

Full and Partial Dentures

For more substantial tooth loss, you may need a set of dentures. If you have gaps spread throughout your smile, but don’t yet need a complete denture, we may prescribe a particle. New teeth will be set in an acrylic base and the prosthetic is held in place with metal clasps that attach to natural ones. A full contains a full row of teeth in an acrylic base, and is held in place with suction. Both options will need to be removed for cleaning and soaking, and last about ten years on average. We again take steps to ensure an esthetically-pleasing appearance.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are inserted into the jawbone. Made from biocompatible titanium, they actually bond with the jawbone like tooth roots. This means they can last for many years, possibly even a lifetime. If we use them to secure a bridge or denture, then your prosthetic can stay in place much longer than traditional ones. Dental implants prevent the loss of jawbone density and changes to facial structure that often follow tooth loss.
