Technically, the last day of summer is September 20th since the first day of fall is on September 21st. But once Labor Day passes and school is back in session, it can begin to feel like fall already. There are lots of fun events going on this weekend in and near Kansas City including the musical, Last Days of Summer. Events This Weekend

  1. Spencer Theatre is presenting Last Days of Summer, a musical based on the American novel of the same name. Set in 1940s Brooklyn, the story sets about the friendship between a baseball player and two boys during World War II. With music co-created by a Tony Award winner, you will not want to miss this production. It is playing through most of September.
  2. Johnson County Old Settlers Festival is back in Olathe, KS this weekend, September 6th through September 8th. The Festival has been around since 1898. Admission is free for the whole family, and unlimited ride wristbands are available for purchase. On Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., the largest parade in Kansas will take place. Enjoy the parade, the carnival, arts & crafts vendors, food, drinks, live music, and all sorts of fun!
  3. On September 8th from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., join the Deaf Cultural Festival to celebrate Kansas City’s Deaf Cultural Month at Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Explore American Sign Language through live entertainment, hands-on activities, art, storytelling, poetry, and more! Everyone is welcome to attend. There will be interpreters and closed-captioning provided.
