Kansas City Ballet: Romeo & Juliet

October 18, 2017
an indoor hall

The most famous of Shakespeare’s plays is being brought to life as a ballet by the Kansas City Company. Artistic Director, Devon Carney, interprets the classic by creating choreography to pair with the story of the ill-fated lovers. The music of Sergei Prokofiev performed live by Kansas City Symphony pairs perfectly with the ballet. The Kansas City Ballet company consists of 30 professional dancers. Recently, a second company, KCB II, has been formed of students of the ballet school and trainees. The Kansas Ballet Company was incorporated in 1957. Devon Carney became the artistic director in 2013. The new focus is seeking out work by popular choreographers, raising up fresh young talent, and interpreting new takes on classic productions, like Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet consists of four acts and an epilogue following characters of the city of Verona. The Kansas City Ballet Company is celebrating its 60th season this year. To celebrate this anniversary, many very special events have taken place this year and will continue to do so through December. Attending the ballet is a great way to support the local area’s arts. The classic, seasonal ballet performance, the Nutcracker, opens this year on December 7th.
