A Cosmetic Solution to Misalignment

March 6, 2019

For people in Kansas City, MO, braces are not the only option for correcting misalignment. In fact, we’re proud to offer our patients access to a unique system that employs clear orthodontic aligners to correct misalignment. How does the ClearCorrect™ system work and what should people expect from clear aligners?

The ClearCorrect™ System

Instead of employing metal orthodontics to correct your smile, we will begin by taking detailed impressions of your teeth, jaw, and gums. The impression will be taken using advanced digital technology and employed to create a 3D model of your smile. At a dental lab, experts will use these 3D models and images to design a series of aligners from a clear plastic material. Wearing the aligners will begin to reposition your teeth and improve overall alignment. Patients then enjoy practically invisible orthodontics and better oral health.

The Impact of Misalignment

How does uneven teeth impact our smiles? Well, uneven teeth often make brushing and flossing thoroughly a difficult prospect, leading to an increased risk of tooth decay and gum disease. For others, the pressure placed on the jaw joints means a greater likelihood of TMJ disorder and bruxism developing. In order to avoid these complications, while obtaining a smile you’ll feel eager to show the world, you need to talk to your dentist about orthodontic solutions.

What to Expect

Patients will wear the aligners every day for between 20 and 22 hours. After about two weeks, we upgrade to a new set as your teeth are gradually and carefully repositioned. This continues for a period of a year to 18 months (depending on the extent of your misalignment) as you develop an even and healthy smile. Patients enjoy a number of benefits when wearing clear aligners. For example, they can be removed before meals, meaning you don’t have to avoid certain items at mealtime or worry about bits of food becoming stuck in your braces. You also have the option to remove them prior to brushing and flossing, which makes caring for your smile much easier. Patients may also take them out prior to special events, such a graduation. However, remember that to obtain the results you discussed with your dentist in the original timeframe, you need to wear them as prescribed.
